No Struggle, No Progress
There's no place in the world like the Booker T. Community in Monroe LA. The idea of a Booker T. Reunion had been discussed for quite some time, but it needed someone to take the initiative to make it a reality. When Anthony Jordan approached Quateadra Smith about organizing the event, the team eagerly agreed to move forward. The Bookertorian Reunion and Parade took place over the weekend of October 25-26, 2024. Saturday's festivities were held at Chennault Park, while the parade on Sunday began at Roy Shelling Elementary School and ended at Carroll High School in Monroe, LA. For an event of this magnitude, funding was essential. Bookertorians came through like champions, generously donating money for food, a jumper for the kids, paper goods, and other necessities. The community's support was overwhelming, with plenty of food for everyone, allowing all attendees to enjoy a day of fellowship and fun. Though the event was a Bookertorian reunion, everyone was welcomed to join the celebration. The Booker T. community is known for being family-oriented, always looking out for one another. Special thanks to those who played a key role in the event's success. Bartholomew Robinson, Anthony Reed, Travis Butler, Charles Mitchell, Edward Mitchell, Cledus Cloman, Terrell Jackson, Tommy Stewart, Jason Harris, Larry Doublin, and Derrick Winn are appreciated for cooking all the meat. Additionally, Khisha Harris, Fannie Mariland, Veronica Robinson, Wynona Harris, Charlotte Butler, Yushelia Reed, Tawanna Ellis, and Erica Harris contributed by cleaning and seasoning the meat, preparing sides, and helping to serve the hundreds in attendance. A special thank you goes to Orlando James for providing Bookertorian paraphernalia. Until next year!
