No Struggle, No Progress

Mental Health: A Critical Need of Breast Cancer, Domestic Violence, and Social Challenges

As we continue to navigate the complexities of health and wellness in Northeast Louisiana, one truth remains undeniable—mental health is the cornerstone of our community's well-being. At Northeast Delta Human Services Authority (NEDHSA), we understand that when individuals and families face significant health challenges, like breast cancer or domestic violence, the toll is often more than just physical. The emotional and psychological burden can be equally overwhelming.

October is a particularly significant month as we recognize both Breast Cancer Awareness and Domestic Violence Awareness. These are not just issues of health and safety, but they also deeply impact the mental health of those affected. Breast cancer, for instance, is more than a medical diagnosis; it’s a life-altering event that brings fear, anxiety, and depression into the lives of women, men, and their families. As they endure grueling treatments and surgeries, many also face the heavy psychological toll of navigating an uncertain future. This is where NEDHSA's integrated care services can make a profound difference—by ensuring that mental health care is readily available and accessible to those battling the disease and to their loved ones.
