No Struggle, No Progress
Dr. Brent Vidrine, a northeast Louisiana educator and former superintendent of the Monroe City Schools District, has been indicted. According to a news release, Vidrine was indicted by the Criminal Division of the Office of the Attorney General on October 21, 2024. He faces two counts of Filing or Maintaining False Public Records, two counts of Malfeasance in Office, and one count of Unauthorized Use of a Movable.
Vidrine had been under investigation since the start of the 2023-24 school year by the Louisiana Legislative Auditor's Office, following a request from the Monroe City Schools Board regarding "financial improprieties" involving questionable documents related to his retirement. The documents allegedly submitted by Vidrine to the Teacher's Retirement System of Louisiana (TRSL) reflected thousands of dollars towards his retirement; however, TRSL's records did not indicate having received any such payments. Other questionable documents, purportedly showing payments from Vidrine made to TRSL via the Monroe City Schools Board, were also unsubstantiated by the agency.
The Monroe Dispatch will provide more details concerning the indictment as they become available. There are three sides to every story. This was one side of this story. The Monroe Dispatch welcomes the other or another side of this story.
