No Struggle, No Progress
A Ouachita Parish woman says that she was wrongly evicted from her apartment over allegedly about her income. The woman said that when she filled out her application, her income was verified through her job which was a low paying one. After living at the complex for about seven months, the woman said that she was allegedly told by apartment administrators that she didn't report her income. But it was alleged that there was another application that allegedly showed the woman having two incomes listed on the day of the application. Where did a "duplicate" application form come from showing two different incomes supposedly from the same job. The woman then alleges that based on the "new" alleged unreported income; her rent went up to an amount that she couldn't afford because of her job. She lives in a subsidized apartment in Monroe LA, where she said under duress, she allegedly was told to sign up for a re-payment plan under a rental assistance program for her to stay, but would have to pay the money back. The woman maintains that her income did not increase to the amount as stated on an application because there was no date as to when the increase took place from the original date of her application. There was no new date on a different paperwork showing that her income had increased. She said that a document allegedly showing her receiving two rental assistance payments is false, but it is her contention that she received only one. She wonders if the money "went somewhere else" and she is being used as a scapegoat to cover up some other activities. Because of what she claims was an illegal eviction, the woman lost her property and believes that others like her have fallen victim to that alleged practice. She says that she wants her story told because she believes that she "there are others" and hopes that someone in authority will investigate these alleged practices and "right the wrongs" that are being done. She also says that she feels "discriminated and humiliated" because someone recognized her as "slow on understanding". Because of her story, the woman says that she "is looking for someone of an authoritative figure who believes in justice and fairness of all people to fight this battle in our journey.". She ended by saying that if more people knew about what is going on, maybe victims like her would cease.
