No Struggle, No Progress

South Monroe Healing Haven

“This has sent me running. I never thought this would be a place that I’d run to after running to many bad relationships and bad addictions.”, says one participant of the CR Small Group Open share hosted by the St. Matthew COCH. Celebrate Recovery (CR) is a Christ-centered recovery program that offers support for individuals dealing with various forms of addiction, trauma, and other life struggles. While it originated as a program for those battling substance abuse, its approach is holistic, encompassing emotional, mental, and spiritual healing for people facing a wide array of issues such as depression, abuse, and codependency. CR’s Small Group Open Share meetings are where much of the healing occurs. In these groups, individuals are encouraged to share their experiences, challenges, and victories in a confidential and supportive environment. For the trauma-ridden community of South Monroe, these gatherings offer several key benefits like a safe space for vulnerability, peer support and accountability, Christ-centered healing, holistic approach for trauma and addiction, and community transformation. “I have found a haven here in my own community for healing despite all the bad things happening around me.”, says another participant. Monroe LA, like many other communities across the US are struggling in a weak economy, with population decline and increase in violent crimes, and among infiltration of drug use, does not have many options for those struggling with their darkest battles. CR has risen to the call to meet a community’s need in faith. One example is the group therapy sessions on grief birth from these sessions now happening on Wednesday at 6:30 PM at St. Matthew. For more information or interviews, please contact Missionary Pearl Wise at (318) 582-0701 or [email protected]. You may also contact Elder Quincy Gardner at (318) 884-9731 or [email protected]. CR at St. Matthew is made possible in part with a mini grant from the Southside Economic Development District.
