Illegal Handgun Possession Prison Time

Timothy L. Elliott, 36, of West Monroe, LA, was recently sentenced in the Western District of Louisiana for illegal possession of firearms, as announced by United States Attorney Brandon B. Brown. Chief United States District Judge Terry A. Doughty sentenced Elliott to 46 months in prison, followed by 3 years of supervised release, for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The incident occurred on November 24, 2022, when officers from the Monroe Police Department (MPD) received a report that Elliott was in possession of a silver and black handgun, which he had concealed in his waistband. Upon the officers' arrival at the scene, Elliott attempted to flee, leading to a police chase. He was quickly apprehended and taken into custody. A subsequent search of his car revealed the silver and black handgun in the center console. Elliott, who has three prior felony convictions, was fully aware that he was prohibited from possessing any firearms or ammunition.
