No Struggle, No Progress
The Carver-McDonald Branch Library at 2941 Renwick St., Monroe, LA, held a community book talk and signing with artist and author Dr. Bernard Menyweather on Thursday, August 15, 2024. Patrons were treated to a continental breakfast with fruit cups, juice, and donuts, generously donated by Tara Fields of the Delta Grande Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Chris Lewis of the Coney Island Connection in West Monroe, LA, stopped by to bring the patrons a surprise. You missed a treat! It was standing room only! We hope to see you next month.
Branch Manager Joyce Powell shared that Dr. Bernard Menyweather taught that basic liberties and rights are guaranteed to every citizen. However, he felt uncertain about the mistreatment of Black, Brown, and poor citizens in our society. Through research, effective study, and careful observation of human nature, he discovered an attribute that can bring the human race closer to true justice: love for God and one another. Dr. Menyweather believes that if Black, Brown, and poor Americans are to become free from bondage, they must put God first, stay focused, and maintain a strong work ethic. It is deeply entrenched in our hearts that God is sovereign and in control of all creation.
Dr.. Bernard Menyweather's life experiences, along with powerful quotes from Dr. King, inspired the creation of his book, Out of Africa: A Long Road to Justice. Faith in God motivated Dr. Menyweather to write stories about men and women who trust in God, who gives them courage and strength in the worst of times.
