The elderly are often preyed upon by those who seek to take advantage of them, especially if they are financially independent. A local woman contacted the Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office (OPSO) on July 11, 2024, after she noticed a large number of unauthorized CashApp transactions. The victim provided law enforcement with banking statements from October 2023 to July 2024. According to the Sheriff's Office, 90 transactions totaling $11,186 were made to a CashApp account allegedly under the name of Alberta Williams. Further investigation revealed that the person associated with the CashApp account was a family member, identified as 32-year-old Alberta L. Williams. A search warrant was obtained for the CashApp account, which confirmed that Williams allegedly received the victim's funds. After obtaining an arrest warrant, Williams was taken into custody on August 15, 2024, on a charge of Exploitation of the Infirmed. There are three sides to every story.
