Money Death Threat

Disclaimer: All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty. A Ouachita Parish man is behind bars after allegedly threatening a female victim with death if she didn't give him money. Robert Whitfield, 50, was recently taken into custody for allegedly kidnapping the victim in addition to making the threat. According to Monroe Police (MPD), on July 23, 2024, Whitfield and the victim were at a Chase bank, where the victim reported to an employee that Whitfield had threatened to kill her. When officers interviewed the victim, she stated that Whitfield had punched her in the face while they were in a car, after she told him to stop. The victim also informed officers that she was staying with Whitfield because she was homeless. She explained that she had received a $15,000 check and was supposed to give Whitfield $2,000. However, on July 22, 2024, Whitfield allegedly threatened to kill her if he did not receive his money. The victim said she called 911 several times from a residence but could not speak freely because Whitfield was in the room with her. When contacted, Whitfield was arrested. He allegedly became agitated and refused to answer any questions. He was taken to the Ouachita Correctional Center (OCC) and charged with Simple Kidnapping, False Imprisonment, and Simple Assault. There are three sides to every story. This was one side of this story. The Monroe Dispatch welcomes another or the other side of this story.
