No Struggle, No Progress

Words Hurt

Most of us have heard the saying, "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me." As much as many would like this to be true, the truth is, words do hurt.

Words have destroyed friendships and marriages. Words have separated families. Words have gotten people fired from jobs. Words have caused fights. Words have even caused wars and ultimately, destruction. Some people have lost their lives because of words.

The Bible itself is known as the Word. It speaks of how powerful words are. In the beginning, God used words to speak things into existence. He heals with just words. He caused the winds and waves to obey with just words.

Life and death are in the power of the tongue, in what we say (words). We build or tear down with words. We edify and encourage, empower and enlighten with words. We choose our words; therefore, we indirectly choose the consequences of our words as well.

Please, don't be deceived. Words are nothing to play with. We have the breath of God in us, and whatever we speak has the ability to create and shape. Think about this when you speak to your children and others around you.

Speak life! Speak blessings! Speak truth! Speak words that heal because enough people have been hurt by them.
