Willie Mays, 93, the iconic Hall of Fame center fielder who is known as the greatest all-around baseball player, died Tuesday June 18, 2024. Mays, had a professional baseball career that spanned four decades, beginning with the Negro Leagues in the late 1940s and ending with the New York Mets in 1972. In between, he spent 21 years with the New York Giants, who would later move to San Francisco. After his baseball playing career, Willie Mays stayed active in the sport by working with the New York Mets and later the San Francisco Giants as a special assistant. He also engaged in charitable work, supporting underprivileged youth, and participated in public speaking and media projects.
