No Struggle, No Progress

Monroe/Foster Height Shootings

Five of the 50 U.S. metro areas with the highest violent crime rates are located in Louisiana, with Monroe ranking as the most dangerous according to a report published by USA Today. In Monroe, more than 2,600 violent crimes were reported in 2020, translating to 1,309 per 100,000 people, which is over three times the national violent crime rate. Other Louisiana metro areas with high violent crime rates include Alexandria, Baton Rouge, New Orleans, and Shreveport. Monroe continues to be plagued by gun violence, resulting in an alarming rate of youth deaths. Families endure the trauma of burying victims, while perpetrators face life in prison. Recently, two shootings were reported in Monroe, LA. On Wednesday, May 29, 2024, a victim was shot on South 11th St. and taken to the hospital. Another incident occurred in Foster Heights on Monday, June 3, 2024, where a youth was allegedly shot. The pressing question remains: will the community continue to let youth become victims of senseless shootings, or will proactive measures be taken before an errant bullet claims the life of a more prominent resident's child? The time to act is now, as delaying action will only result in more preventable deaths due to gun violence. A B.A.L.M. in Monroe is a collaborative plan that every citizen, elected and appointed officials, clergy, and organizations can participate in to help improve the image of Monroe while inspiring at-risk males to take more responsibility for their actions and respect the lives of others - a balanced approach to lower the violent crime and murder rate in Monroe, LA. Praise God for law enforcement.
