No Struggle, No Progress
Disclaimer: All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty. It must have been karma. How else could someone allegedly commit a crime against someone and then almost instantly need their help? According to the Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office (OPSO), such an incident occurred on May 19, 2024, when deputies responded to gunshots. Authorities reported that the chain of events began when the suspect, Makiejaalliuna Vallaire, traveled to Monroe from Acadia with others, bringing a female juvenile to allegedly have sex with a man for $60. This, by law, is considered sex trafficking.
When Vallaire and three other individuals arrived at the meeting point, the female juvenile got into the victim's vehicle but became uncomfortable with the arrangement, as she was supposed to take money from the victim's wallet. While discussing whether to proceed, another male juvenile, allegedly armed with a handgun, approached the victim. According to OPSO, they took the victim's wallet and money. The handgun discharged when the victim slapped it away, and Vallaire and the others tried to flee but got their vehicle stuck in the mud.
They returned to the victim they had just robbed, offering to return his money and wallet in exchange for help freeing their vehicle. By then, the victim had armed himself and allegedly detained them. When officers spoke to the female juvenile, she allegedly revealed plans to rob the victim. Deputies informed her of a similar investigation by Monroe Police, and she identified Vallaire from a photo. The victim also confirmed Vallaire's identity from the photo.
Vallaire was arrested and charged with multiple counts of Armed Robbery, Attempted Armed Robbery, Use of a Firearm, Contributing to the Delinquency of Juveniles, Criminal Conspiracy, and Trafficking Children for Sex. Another suspect, 19-year-old Demetria D. McCune, also involved in the other robbery and who traveled with Vallaire, was charged with multiple counts of Armed Robbery, Criminal Conspiracy, Contributing to the Delinquency of Juveniles, and Resisting an Officer, with a bond set at $242,500.
