No Struggle, No Progress

Gardening: Time to Get Rosy

Carver-McDonald Branch Library at 2941 Renwick St. in Monroe LA will host a gardening program on how to prepare your garden for Spring planting. The presenter, Horticulture Kerry Heafner, LSU Ag Center with the community participation, the program is Thursday, May 16, 2024, at 11 AM. Joyce Powell, Branch Manager. Gardening is a great hobby to take up; it gets you outside, burning calories, and produces rewarding results. Some plants are shade plants, others need sun, and yet even more plants are partial shade or sun! Some plants are just known to be easier to grow than others. According to the Gallup Gardening Survey, less than half of the country's home gardeners use any kind of fertilizer on their lawns or gardens. What is unfortunate about this statistic is that it means gardeners are not getting as many flowers or as much produce as they should. Well-fed plants are healthier, more productive, and more beautiful. *Remember those tasty tomatoes and beautiful roses you grew last year? It took nutrients from the soil to build those plant tissues. By fertilizing your garden, you replenish lost nutrients and ensure that this year's plants have the food they need to flourish.
