No Struggle, No Progress

Parkview Apartments Shooting

A shooting incident unfolded at the Parkview Apartments early Tuesday morning, April 30, 2024, resulting in injuries to three individuals. According to community activist Verbon Muhammad, who is poised to assume office as councilman for Monroe's District 5 council seat, the shooting occurred around 2:00 AM, marking yet another tragic instance of Black-on-Black crime tearing families apart.

On April 30, 2024, the Monroe Police Department (MPD) responded to a Shotspotter alert at 1101 Richwood Rd. 2, Parkview Apartments in Monroe, LA. Upon arrival, officers discovered three gunshot victims, all of whom were promptly transported to a nearby hospital for medical attention. While two victims were discharged shortly after admission, one remains hospitalized, though their condition is expected to improve.

Authorities urge anyone with information regarding the shooting to contact the Monroe Police Department at (318) 329-2600 or Crime Stoppers of North Delta at (318) 388-2274 (CASH). Muhammad engaged in dialogue with residents in the vicinity, who said that the victims were not residents of Parkview. Joining him was Mondrian Douglas, a fellow District 5 candidate, who echoed concerns about crime in Monroe. Muhammad reiterated his commitment to crime reduction and called for unified action across District 5 and the broader community. Addressing allegations of conducting a "dirty campaign" leveled against him by defeated councilwoman Kema Dawson, Muhammad refuted the claims, asserting that his criticisms were based solely on her public record as a councilwoman.
