No Struggle, No Progress

Trump's Criminal Trial Begins

Disclaimer: All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty. Monday, April 15, 2024 is a day that will go down in infamy in the history of a young United States of America when a former president formally went on trial for a criminal offense in a real courtroom. The record will show that what happened in a New York City courthouse was not part of a reality television show, nor was it a dramatic depiction of an incident involving another famous figure like Al Capone who was accused of many crimes, but was never convicted, except for tax evasion. However, Donald Trump faced a day in a courtroom Monday unlike any other day that he has faced, as no money amount of money that he spent( and continues to spend), kept him from his date with Lady Justice. Just as in the Capone case, the one thing that brought Trump to a New York courtroom wasn't hanging around with gangsters as Capone did, as Trump always traveled in elite circles, it was the alleged affair that he had with an adult film star named Stephanie Clifford, but forever called Stormy Daniels.

It has been a "stormy" ride for the ex-president since word came out years ago of the alleged affair that occurred before the 2016 presidential election where Trump is alleged to have paid hush money to Daniels (Clifford) so that voters wouldn't know of the affair and reluctantly cast (or not) their vote for Hillary Clinton who was on the verge of winning. Nonetheless, an email server scandal revealed by the Department of Justice just weeks before the election turned the tide in favor of Trump, handing him the victory. Trump would go on to deny the affair until it was revealed that hush money was paid by his lawyer Michael Cohn through people that Trump knew, but after Daniels spoke intimately of the affair, plus the existence of checks later supported by Cohn's corroboration with authorities and clearly defined laws allegedly being broken is why Trump is in a courtroom now. Trump has played the "victim" card since day-one. that he is the subject of a witch hunt not only in this trial, but in two other possible trials looming over his head that are yet to play out.

In each of those trials, Trump is the central figure. He is now fighting to keep his empire intact, as N. Y. Atty. Gen. Letitia James continues to apply pressure to seize assets stemming from the decision that Trump committed fraud in New York over his business holdings where his top CEO went to jail. Then there is the RICO case by Georgia D.A. Fani Willis concerning the "get me one more vote" request Trump made to the Georgia Secretary of State after the 2020 presidential election. Then there is the "classified document-gate" case where if convicted, Trump could go to federal prison. Again, the central figure who got Trump in these situations is Trump because of his actions; the things that he said/did, but he is playing the victim card. Despite all that is going on regarding Trump legally, and to many but not all morally, he is in the thick of a presidential election where with Republicans in charge of many statehouses who are still trying to suppress minority voters, anything is possible on Nov. 5. It is possible that a presidential candidate may be convicted of a crime and still win the election. And let's not fool ourselves, as there are Trump supporters, the law-and-order ones in Congress telling voters that the Biden administration is "weaponizing" the DOJ against Trump, that judges are "biased", the charges are "frivolous", knowing that the charges are serious, but what else can they say to the base if they want to keep their positions. Once again, this nation and its system of justice is on center stage as the world will witness if when it comes to criminal law, is there's one man in America who is above the law. Remember, the world is watching. So is God.
