A man wanted as a suspect in a shooting that occurred while people were Easter shopping has been arrested. Monroe Police (MPD) announced the arrest of Jaylen Webster on April 14, 2024, as the alleged shooter at a gas station on Lamy Ln. in Monroe. According to authorities, Webster is a suspect in a shooting that occurred on March 29, 2024, around 2:15 PM. Two individuals sustained wounds from multiple gunshots and had to be airlifted to Shreveport for further medical treatment. Authorities said that Webster, who has a record, and another suspect allegedly followed the victims in their vehicle to the gas station and waited for them to leave. When the victims left in their vehicle, they made a stop to enter into traffic when, according to officers, the suspects approached the victim's vehicle.

The suspects allegedly began firing at the victim's vehicle as the victim hurriedly tried to escape from the gunfire, only to lose control and crash the vehicle into the Murphy Oil building, which had an employee inside when it happened. Multiple shell casings were found, indicating that the victim's vehicle was struck at least 12 times, officers said. The area is heavily congested with traffic, as there is the Walmart parking lot and also the Super-1 parking lot at the intersection of Louisville Ave and Lamy Ln., with a constant flow of vehicular traffic.

Officers said that the vehicle Webster was allegedly in belonged to his girlfriend, whom he had dropped off for work earlier. Webster would allegedly return the vehicle around 2:30 PM back to his girlfriend on Desiard St. and leave on foot. In the course of their investigation, officers would learn that Webster was allegedly at the Kingsway Apartments, where he was located and was arrested. According to reports, officers also learned that one of the victims was allegedly dating the former companion of an alleged leader of YNN, a Monroe street gang whose physical boundaries include the Booker T. Washington neighborhood. According to authorities, Webster allegedly was currently on bond for Attempted Second Degree Murder, and a prior arrest from East Carroll Parish for Illegal Use of a Dangerous Weapons and Resisting an Officer. He was booked into Ouachita Correctional Center on two counts of Attempted Second Degree Murder and Resisting an Officer.
