Black History Month is HERE and through the efforts of Senator Katrina Jackson, Senate District 34, HAMPCO, Inc. will be bringing back its Academic Heritage Quiz Bowl. This Bowl will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2024, starting at 9:00 a.m. at Thomas Jefferson Upper Elementary School, 1001 Pecan Street, Monroe, La. This Quiz Bowl will have three levels of competition: Elementary, Junior High and High Schools. All schools will compete for money and prizes. Students will answer questions about African American History and the team with the highest number of points will win. The winning First Place School will win $2,500.00 to enhance their school library with African American Literature and the First Place Team members will receive $250.00 each. Monetary prizes will also be awarded to the 2nd and 3rd place team members only. The Public is invited to come out to cheer for their favorite school. This is an excellent means of encouraging youth to educate themselves and to gain new information on African Americans who have made contributions in this world, while having competitive fun.
