No Struggle, No Progress
Last year 2023, I was excited to launch my first Racial Healing conversation with leaders and professionals from the community. This groundbreaking conversation was so well-received that I got phone calls from across the city, and several leaders and businesses said they heard about the event. I returned to the drawing board to lay out a full curriculum and conversation guide to continue this work. I am so excited to share that our first Racial Healing conversation of 2024 will kick off on Saturday, February 17, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Mt. Zion Family Life Center. Join us as we explore how the past, present, and future of our country and community have impacted Black and minority opportunities and well-being. Participate in round-table and full-group, research-based study conversations allowing the community to share stories about their realities, ideas, and plans that can become actions to heal and grow. The city of Monroe's Black citizens account for more than 60% of the city's population and more than 40% of the parish-wide population. Northeast Louisiana has a rich Black history and culture that has historically been the life of the communities. Let's talk about what has shifted, what has to change, and what is already happening in this region. EVERYONE is invited to participate in this conversation because, the dynamics of this community impact everyone in this community. I will also preview the remaining sessions for 2024, which will involve continued studies and conversations, resource sharing, and community connections to turn conversations into actions. Thank you to my church, Mount Zion Baptist Church, and Healthy Blue Louisiana for sponsoring this event. PLEASE register for the event so we can ensure there are enough materials and resources for Here is an updated link for registration. I look forward to seeing you!
