No Struggle, No Progress

Hughie L. Rhodes' Treasured Farewell

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of a beloved family patriarch, Hughie L. Rhodes, born on April 21, 1935, in Bastrop, LA, to parents Harrison and Beatrice Rhodes. Hughie's life journey was a testament to love, faith, and nature as an avid outdoorsman. Hughie left an enduring mark on those who knew him. But his love story with his wife, Tinnie Mae Archie Rhodes, cemented a bond that became the foundation of their family. Their enduring marriage spanned over six decades. After serving in the Navy, Hughie and Tinnie pursued their dreams together in southern California, raising three sons and sharing countless RV adventures across the United States. In 1979, after living in Los Angeles, CA, for over twenty years, Hughie, Tinnie, and their two younger sons made a life-altering move to Monroe, LA, to be near Hughie's beloved mother. There, he joined and actively participated in True Vine Missionary Baptist Church, where he faithfully served on the Usher Board until his health failed.

Hughie's infectious smile and inner calm radiated joy, leaving behind cherished memories and inspiring all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will forever live on through his sons Frederick S. Rhodes and Dr. Dwight E. Rhodes (Micène). His oldest son, Patrick E. Rhodes, preceded him in death. Hughie will be deeply missed by his Goddaughters, Darlene McGhee Whittington (Delmar), Kristy Young, Dr. Sonya Burnett-Andrus (Dr. Tracy), and Tamra Telsee (Tarik). He also leaves behind his beloved aunt, Rose Turner, his cherished nieces, Letitia Conliffe and Virginia Vessel, and numerous uncles, cousins, and lifelong friends.

Visitation will be held 4:00 - 6:00 PM on Thursday, February 8, at True Vine Baptist Church (1400 Dilling St, Monroe, LA). Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, February 9, at True Vine Baptist Church (1400 Dilling St, Monroe, LA) under the direction of Hester Central State Funeral Home, 811 Louise Anne Avenue, Monroe, LA. Interment will immediately follow at the Northeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, 2413 Highway 425, Rayville, LA.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests support for Hughie's cherished love of camping by making donations in his name to aid our national parks and wildlife conservation efforts. In doing so, we honor the legacy of a man whose love for family, faith, and nature will live forever in us all.
