Disclaimer: All persons are innocent until proven guilty. On December 15, 2023, Ouachita Parish Sheriff Deputies responded to a battery complaint in the Brownsville-Bawcomville neighborhood of West Monroe, LA where they identified a male and female victim. The male victim recounted a verbal dispute with the suspect, Jaterrious Burks, escalating to a physical altercation. Burks allegedly brandished a black handgun, striking the male victim on the head multiple times. The female victim, identified as Burks' cousin, reported his pointing the gun at her as she attempted to intervene. Deputies later located Burks at 324 Pink Street in West Monroe, confirming his identity through photographs and distinguishing tattoos on his body, collected during previous arrests. Upon confirming his identity, Burks, who initially provided a false name, continued to withhold information about the alleged battery. OPSO Headquarters disclosed four active arrest warrants against Burks, including charges of Aggravated Assault with a Firearm, resisting by flight, driving without a license, and Violation of PO. Despite initially refusing to reveal his true name, Burks eventually admitted to being Jaterrious Burks upon arrival at OCC. This incident sheds light on a concerning pattern of alleged violence, prompting law enforcement to apprehend the suspect and address the existing warrants against him.
