Linda Mercy-Brass Final Rites

Linda Faye Mercy Brass was born on December 4, 1951 in Monroe, Louisiana to the late Tom and Ethel Bowie Mercy. She was the youngest of 13 children. She departed this life on September 5, 2023, surrounded by loved ones.

Linda was proceeded in death by her parents Tom and Ethel Bowie Mercy, brothers: Albert, Henry, James and Jessie; and sisters Martha Mercy, Mary M. Mardis, Dorothy Iseah, Eliza Hudson and Debra Mercy-Boley: one grandson Brenden Brass, and several other nieces and nephews. Linda Professed her love for the Lord at the age of eight and was baptized at Mount Zion Baptist Church by Rev. W.R. Hines Linda received her early education within the Monroe City School System. She attended Lincoln Elementary, Carrol Junior High and graduated from Carroll High School Class of 1969. She also graduated from Louisiana Business College with an emphasis in Secretarial Science. On June 22, 1971, Linda was joined in Holy Matrimony to the love of her life and high school sweetheart, Arthur (Jack) Brass. To this union, two sons were brought into her life. Linda worked as a Legal Secretary to the firm Moore and Rutter Law Offices in Long Beach, California. She was also a devoted church secretary of Athens Baptist Church of Los Angeles, California, under the leadership of Rev. C.W. Long until she retired and moved to Grand Prairie, Texas in 2006. Linda was a praying woman who was very independent. God and family came first. She loved to read and work crossword puzzles. She loved her family, music, dancing, and laughing at jokes that we could not tell whether or not it was a true story or one she made up. She loved to spend time with her family and would help coordinate family reunions. She gave to others no matter the cost and did not expect anything in return-other than Love. Linda loved listening to music with her favorite artists being The Temptations, The O'Jays, Douglas Miller, and Al Green to name a few. When the right song came on, she and Jack, her husband, would do their signature "swing-out" dance. Linda leaves to cherish her memories: her husband, Arthur (Jack); two sons, Brian (Gregoria) Brass, Ryan (Shenia) Brass; four grandsons, Jahkesce, Brian Jr. Isaiah, and Elijah Brass; one sister: Betty Pollard; four brothers, Tom Mercy Jr., Robert (Sylvia) Mercy, Samuel Mercy and Kenneth Mercy; along with a host of beautiful nieces, nephews, other relatives, extended family and special friends that she loved so dearly.
