No Struggle, No Progress
Every Grambling homecoming is special for James "Shack" Harris, but this homecoming had him on the ball field all smiles as if he were dressing out for the black and gold once again. Upon the naming of Grambling football field recently, at Eddie G. Robinson Stadium as Grambling State University Harris-Williams Field, Harris had a mini celebration with his wife and sister on the field. Shack is one of Monroe's most famous natives and quarterbacks from Carroll High School, Grambling, and was the first Black quarterback to start in an NFL game. He is first grateful to God, his big sister Lucille Richards, his coaches, and all those who believed in him and gave him an opportunity to showcase his talents. Harris's journey is so unique because if it had not been for his courageous big sister Lucille, who sealed the deal for Shack's illustrious football career by signing his mother's name to his college letter of intent, you know the rest of the story! Praise God for sisters like Lucille Richards.
