No Struggle, No Progress

We defend each other and support one another through the trials of life. Sometimes, it's how we show that support that can get us in trouble. According to a recent police report, Monroe Police responded to an altercation involving a male victim and the brothers of an unknown female. Police say that the victim was involved in an altercation with the brothers of the female after allegedly being told to "not put his hands" on their sister again. During the altercation, one of the brothers allegedly said to "get the gun", at which time the victim attempted to flee from the brothers. One of the brothers was identified as 28-year-old Matthew Higgins, as shots were fired, leading to the victim being shot in the right side of his back, according to MPD. Police said that Higgins was seen with a gun, but he was not seen firing the weapon. During an investigation at the scene, officers said approximately seven spent 9mm casings were recovered. Officers also made note of the descriptions of the brothers, that Higgins' brother was taller and had twisties in his hair.
Officers were also advised that the suspects fled the scene in a U-Haul truck after the alleged shooting. According to MPD, the truck was located on Preston Loop. Officers located Higgins at a residence on Stacy Drive. As Higgins and several juveniles left the residence, officers saw the other brother who was at the alleged shooting. Officers apprehended the two suspects, after which they were tested for gunshot residue. According to officers, Higgin's brother tested for gunshot residue. Higgins tested negative. Higgins was arrested and charged with Aggravated Second-Degree Battery. There are three sides to every story. This was one side of this story.
