Eva Jackson's Final Rites

Eva M. Hunter Jackson was the second child of eight children born to the late Selma and Earlean Hunter on their family farm in Oak Ridge, Louisiana where her childhood was flavored with many wonderful experiences. At an early age, she was baptized at the Alexander No. 1 Baptist Church in Oak Ridge, LA and later united with the Rose of Sharon Baptist Church in Monroe LA under the leadership of the late Reverend J. B. Brown for over 50 years. While at Rose of Sharon, she served as former secretary and treasurer of the Mission Department, Director of the Youth Department (Red Dot Circle), President of the Deaconess Ministry (formerly Mother's Board) and Sunday School Teacher of the Adult Women Sunday School Class and a teacher of the Youth Department in the Old Line Baptist Association.

She was a graduate of Morehouse Training High School in Bastrop LA. Mrs. Jackson received a B. S. Degree in Upper and Lower Elementary Education from Grambling College (now Grambling State University), Master's Degree from Indiana University and obtained a 30 Plus from Northeast University (now University of Louisiana at Monroe). . She also served as Principal of Runnerfield Elementary in Madison Parish. She retired from the Monroe City School and Madison Parish after thirty-six years of service. Mrs. Jackson went home to be with the Lord on Saturday September 2, 2023

She was preceded in death by her parents, twin sister, Lula Hunter Armstrong, sisters, Katherine Hunter Banks and Maggie Hunter Wilson, brother, Selma Hunter Jr., and husband of forty-nine years, Leo Samuel Jackson.

She leaves to cherish her memory: daughter, Yvonne Lemer Jackson; son, Levon Lamar Jackson; two sisters: Sarah Hunter Dixon of Shreveport, LA, Lillian Hunter Johnson of Milwaukee, WI; sister-in-law, Josetta Jackson of Rochester, NY; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services are Saturday September 9, 2023 at 11am at Rose of Sharon Baptist Church at 716 MLK Jr. Dr. in Monroe LA. Visitation is Friday September 8, from 1-6pm at Miller Funeral Home in Monroe LA.
