No Struggle, No Progress

May My Life Speak for Me

Deacon Prince Albert Calloway Jr., also known as "Cowboy", was born on September 24, 1956, to Prince Albert Calloway Sr. and Katie Lee Harris Calloway. Both his parents and daughter, Kenyett Brown, preceded him in death. He was the thirteenth of fifteen children, eight brothers, and six sisters. On Monday, July 10, 2023, Deacon Prince Albert Calloway Jr. heard the call from the Lord and gladly answered. Deacon Prince never met a stranger; he was a people person, and if he ever saw someone feeling down, he would say, "It's gonna be alright."

His family left Rayville, LA, and came to Monroe, LA, moving into the Booker T. community. Cowboy attended Carroll High School and received his high school diploma in 1977. After finishing high school, he lived in Texas with his brother Manual Calloway, where he became a licensed plumber for fifteen years in Dallas, TX. He left Dallas, TX, and he and his family moved to Seattle, WA, where he got a job at the civic center, becoming a supervisor for eleven years. He later moved his family back to Monroe, where he worked as a self-employed plumber. In 1979 he became a father for the first time when Kitisha was born. He married Rose Mary Brown, and they had two children, Kitisha Calloway Jones and Prince Albert Calloway III. Then Prince married Venetta Cockerm Calloway in 2012 in Monroe, LA. When it came to family, he loved them no matter who needed him. He would stop and go to them no matter where they were. In his spare time, Prince loved tending to his horses, hunting dogs, and going hunting. Left to cherish his memories are his lovely wife, Venetta Calloway of thirteen years; his children - Kitisha Jones (Dejuan), Prince Albert Calloway III (Ronesha), Larisha Carroll (Jarvis), and Turner Hayden; brothers - David Calloway(Jorie) of Dallas, TX, Fred Calloway(Geneva); sisters - Ora Lee Winston (Lemmie) of Seattle, WA, Florence Smith, Ophelia Lockett; aunts - Tobithia Calloway and Vallena Winston (Elonzo); four special Godbrothers - Bennie Brown Jr., James Brown, Danny Brown, Jimmy Brown; two special Godsisters - Hope Brown McGee and Yolonda Brown; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. His services are Saturday, July 15, 2023, 2:00 PM at Greater Free Gift Baptist Church in Monroe, LA. Visitation is 6:00 - 8:00 PM, Friday, July 14, 2023 at Greater Free Gift Baptist in Monroe, LA.
