No Struggle, No Progress
It seems as if the wheels of life for many young souls have fewer turns these days. For the life of Grambling State University Senior Kelssie J’Nycole Maze, the final wheel has spun.
Kelssie, 23, a Monroe native, was the vibrant daughter of Jermaine and Monica Maze, also of Monroe, LA. She was indeed the sparkle in the eyes of her family and friends, and all who knew her knew she was destined for greatness. Her educational matriculation began in Ouachita Parish and Monroe City School systems. She was an honor student and participated in a variety of activities, including the National Honor Society and cheering squad at her high school alma mater, Wossman High, Monroe, LA. Her church affiliation was with the You Can Trust Me Ministries, where the Reverend Melanie Jackson is the pastor. There, she participated in the dance and youth ministry. She was currently enrolled at Grambling State University, majoring in Biology, with anticipation of earning her bachelor’s degree in December 2023. Kelssie went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 24, 2023. Her parents, Jermaine and Monica Maze, a loving brother, Jermaine, II, and many uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends are left to mourn her untimely departure. Prayers from the community are highly encouraged as the family attempts to come to terms with this tragic occurrence. Services for Kelssie will take place Saturday, July 8, 2023, at 11:00 AM at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 211 Mt. Zion Street, Monroe, LA, where Rev. Melanie Jackson will officiate. Interment will be in Richwood Memorial Cemetery, Richwood, LA, immediately after the service under the direction of Smith Funeral Home at 907 Winnsboro Road in Monroe, LA.
