No Struggle, No Progress

Walmart Shooting, Gun Possession Arrests

Disclaimer: All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty. In today's time, the old saying, "Shoppers beware" carries so much weight when one thinks about their personal safety. Often, there is so much on one's mind about what to buy that we can easily forget that something dangerous can happen in the next moment. That warning on being aware should be about being prepared for anything that could happen next. A recent shooting at a local Walmart must have had shoppers on edge, as Monroe Police made several arrests following the shooting. Among those arrested was a 16-year-old male juvenile for firing shots at the store. Police said that the unidentified alleged suspect was arrested on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, and charged with Attempted Second Degree Murder, Illegal Use of a Weapon, and Possession of a Handgun by a Juvenile. According to the Monroe Police Department, an investigation led to the arrest of three individuals on weapon charges. MPD shared that the three alleged suspects, identified as Chardarrius Jones, Jakevyoun McWilliams, and Markel Norris, were all arrested and taken into custody for Illegal Carrying of a weapon. MPD also said that three Glock handguns with extended magazines were recovered during the arrest of the three alleged suspects. MPD said that Jones possessed a handgun with a Glock Switch, which can be converted from a semi-automatic gun into a machine pistol capable of fully automatic fire. Police say that Jones faces other potential charges by the department's Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearm and Explosives, in addition to potential charges of Jones also being involved in another recent shooting.
