No Struggle, No Progress
Lest we not forget the educational institutions which served and impacted students in ways only God knows and produced successful citizens, despite challenging environments, lack of up-to-date resources, and unfair separate and unequal laws. Before there were integrated high schools, there were many great institutions of learning, including Combs-McIntyre, Concordia, Eastside, Ester Toombs, Franklin Parish Training, Jackson, OLHC, Little Flower Academy, Jonesville Consolidated, G.W. Griffin, Magnolia, Martin, Reuben McCall, Tensas Rosenwald, Waverly, Westside, Wisner-Gilbert, Sevier, Rhymes, Trout-Goodpine, Shady Grove, Crawford, Coleman, Webster, Brown, Mayfield, Carter G. Woodson, Pinecrest. Morehouse, Alto, Thomastown, Eula D. Britton, Lincoln, Richardson, Union, Myles, Union Central, Richwood, and Carroll High Schools. The education imparted was invaluable and made many prosper. The latter two schools are still in existence but still facing overwhelming trials. Seeing classmates from years past has been and will always be rewarding. Wossman's Patricia Spellman Hill looks forward to an enlightening school reunion. 1972 graduates of Carroll, Neville Wossman High Schools still look this good! There are other Black schools, which are not listed, that we need to add to this list. Please help. Thanks to Ron Hunt for adding more schools to our list.
