Spurgeon Dr. Fatal Shooting

Disclaimer: All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty. A Monroe man is behind bars for his alleged role in the shooting death of a local woman. On March 16, 2023, Monroe police responded to a call of a shooting on Spurgeon Dr. The shooting, according to the police department, left a female deceased as a result of the shooting. Officers arrested Chasire Powell as the alleged gunman who fired the fatal shots. Officers say that when they arrived at the scene, Powell was allegedly standing in the doorway of the residence and was ordered to "show his hands" since the shooting had just occurred. When officers regained control of the incident, a witness who was present at the time spoke to them. The witness told officers that three individuals, herself, Powell, and the victim were the only ones in the residence. The witness said that she went to her bedroom while Powell was in the living room, and the victim was in the kitchen. The witness continued telling officers that she heard multiple gunshots, and as she left her room, she allegedly saw Powell standing outside as the victim was running away from the residence. The witness said that she heard the victim say "wow" according to the incident report. Powell allegedly said the victim should not have said his cousin's name. The victim's body was found in a driveway next door, having been shot multiple times. During their investigation, officers found blood that led back to the residence, where there was also blood found in the kitchen. A gun was recovered on the couch in the living room, and a shell was found on the front steps of the residence. Powell was arrested and will face one count of Second-Degree Murder, and one count of Possession of a Firearm, or the Carrying of a Concealed Weapon by a Person Convicted of Certain Felonies.
