No Struggle, No Progress
This reporter had a conversation with Tommy Ballard the other day and naturally, the subject of Carroll High School in Monroe LA came across his thoughts. I mentioned the recent high school basketball tournament for the state's high schools as they battled for championship supremacy. Ballard who is a member of the Carroll Bulldogs Booster Club "bleeds Blue and Gold", reflected back on the season of the boy's/girls' basketball teams, and said that the community was proud of what they accomplished. Though the girls' team wasn't as successful as the boys, they nonetheless represented Carroll well. Ballard said that the Booster Club along with the fans, friends, family, and coaching staff with Principal Eric Davis and the staff, are extremely happy about the accomplishment during the 2022-2023 basketball season. The Bulldogs are district champs, which is an accomplishment in/ itself. Though the Bulldogs didn't win the state chmpionship trophy against Bossier, they were the only team from NELA to make it to a state championship game. There may have been some "doubters" of how successful a season the boy's basketball would be, but the fact that they made it to the championship game, proved them wrong. But Ballard said that it is the kid's time to shine, that this is their big moment, noting that we as adults have had our moment in times past. Ballard also said that moments like these can be seen as "launching pads" for kids to not only visualize their dreams but step out on faith to achieve them. Ballard said that he hopes that next year will be the one where both the boy's and girl's teams bring home the gold. But for now, the community is very proud of them.
