A night out at one of Monroe's many nightlife entertainment venues took on a serious note for some when a shooting occurred. According to police reports, on Sunday, February 26,2023, law enforcement received a call around 1:50 AM concerning a shooting that occurred at the Onyx Club in Richwood, LA. When law enforcement arrived at the scene, they discovered two individuals had been shot. Though security was provided at the club, officers would learn that the shooting began after a fight occurred, as a Black male produced a handgun. The alleged shooter was identified as Brandon Wilkerson, 29, who officers said fired the weapon inside the club. In the ensuing melee, two patrons were struck by gunfire. According to reports, three security guards identified Wilkerson as the shooter. Officers said that Wilkerson tried to flee from the club but was restrained by security with the weapon still in his possession. The two unidentified victims were taken to hospitals, with the most serious victim taken to LSU Shreveport, listed in critical condition after being shot numerous times, according to law enforcement. The second victim was struck in the lower body and did not appear to suffer life-threatening injuries. Wilkerson has been charged with two counts of Attempted Second-Degree Murder and having a firearm on the premises of an alcoholic beverage establishment.
