No Struggle, No Progress
Disclaimer: All persons are innocent until proven guilty. A man sought following an incident on Dunlop St. in Monroe, LA, on January 7, 2023, was apprehended from a tip of an individual. He was wanted for his involvement in the death of another local man. Monroe Police Department (MPD) recently announced that Rickey Rogers was at a residence on Rogers St. where police believed Xavier Givens, the wanted individual, was located. Givens was not at the residence, as he is being sought after in the shooting death of a local man at a convenience store on the corner of South 9th St. and Winnsboro Rd. When officers arrived at the Dunlop St. address, police said "numerous" men exited the residence, with one saying that he knew Givens, only that Givens wasn't there at the time. Rogers, police say, tried to leave through a back window only to face other officers. According to the arrest report, Rogers went back in. He would exit the residence where he was detained and patted down. While going through the process, police say that they found what seemed to be a bag of marijuana in Rogers' left front pants pocket. After being questioned by officers, he would admit to "possessing the marijuana. Rogers allegedly had on his person a 14.34-gram bag of marijuana, as he also confirmed that he tried to exit the rear window of the residence. Rogers was placed under arrest.
Rogers had arrest warrants, two of which involved firearms. He was also included in an investigation of a connected shooting that involved his child. On Saturday, January 7, 2023, MPD responded to a shooting on Dunlop St. Officers were told that a three-year-old had been shot. According to a report on the incident, an arrest warrant was obtained for Rogers, where he was wanted for Second Degree of Cruelty to a Juvenile and Illegal Use of a Weapon. When the home was searched with the owner's consent, police said that they searched the kids' room, where Rogers jumped out the window. Officers allegedly found a loaded XDS-9 Springfield Armory 9mm with ten live rounds inside a crib by the window. Police also said the weapon "appeared" to have been stolen from the Ouachita Parish Sheriff's office. Rogers was booked at Ouachita Correctional Center(OCC) on Possession of a Stolen Firearm and Possession of Marijuana.
