Shooting Woman Faces Charges, Suspect Sought

Disclamer: All persons are innocent until proven guilty. A local man is dead. A Ruston woman is facing charges for allegedly knowing who the killer is as police officers search the area. According to police reports, the woman allegedly left Ruston and traveled to Monroe with an unknown female friend after allegedly being told that her female friend's mother had been battered. Derrick Moore, 45, was in a southside business on Sunday, February 5, 2023, when an unknown male entered the business and approached Moore. According to MPD and video footage from the business, once the unidentified man approached Moore, he punched Moore, knocking him to the ground. The suspect then went to the door of the business and allegedly waved for the female from Ruston, who had accompanied him, to come inside the business. The female, identified as Nakeya Baker, allegedly came inside, looked at Moore, and casually walked out of the business, returning to the vehicle. She was soon accompanied by the male suspect in the vehicle. According to MPD, the two allegedly left the business heading towards Moore's home on State St. MPD said that as the victim was walking home, shots rang out, mortally wounding Moore. A witness who allegedly witnessed the shooting said that the vehicle the suspect was in was a white four-door parked near the incident. The suspect was said to have left the area in the white vehicle, but Baker would soon be apprehended and arrested for allegedly being with the suspect. MPD said that after interviewing Baker, she refused to tell officers who the suspect was, but based on the information gathered, officers established that Baker knew who the suspect was; According to arrest reports, Baker was charged with Felony Conspiracy to Commit Murder. As of press time, MPD has not said if Moore's death is connected with the mother allegedly being battered.
