No Struggle, No Progress

Forever in Our Hearts

Ora Lee Brass was born on April 17, 1921, in Wisner, LA, to Saul and Neller Scott-Brass, who both passed away before her. In the 1940s, Ms. Brass moved to Monroe, LA, where she spent many years operating her salon adjacent to the house as a qualified beautician. Former customers continue to rave about how enthusiastic she was when styling their hair and how much fun it was to be in her company. Early in life, Ms. Brass made a profession of faith in Jesus Christ. She joined Avenue Baptist Church and faithfully attended there until her health started to deteriorate. She was an independent, self-made woman who enjoyed traveling. She also took pleasure in tending her yard, which she kept impeccably maintained into her 90s. She was always the life of family gatherings and cherished spending time with her loved ones. She displayed her unwavering devotion and joyous energy with her family and in the community, where she is well-respected. Ms. Brass was predeceased by her three children, Neller Jean Guice, the Carroll High School twins, Class of 1964 Charles "Ray" (Dorothy) and Bennie "Roy", as well as her six siblings Alce Brass, Odessa Brass, Asberry Brass-Stewart (Jessie), Wilmor Brass (Agnes), Ellis Brown (Mary), and Willie Brown (Mildred).

She departed her earthy home on January 20, 2023. She is survived by her son Roy's wife Christine Brass, her granddaughters - Ashley Brass-Karran (Jayson) and Tracey T. Steverson (Tyrone), four great-grandchildren - Tavina Dortch, Tashidia Steverson, Tamisha Steverson, and Tyra Steverson, and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services are Thursday, January 26, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Miller Funeral Home, 2932 Renwick St. in Monroe, LA.
