No Struggle, No Progress

Who Needs the Constitution?

Donald Trump must feel like a man going down for the third time. First of all, the 2020 presidential election didn’t turn out the way he wanted it to. All throughout the campaign season, Trump had long planted the seed of doubt that would propel his numerous attempts to try to turn the results of the election in his favor, which failed. An attempted coup to disrupt the peaceful transfer of power that he has been faulted with by his followers failed, leading to numerous injuries and several deaths that ensued. The dozens of legal challenges that failed wasn’t enough to keep Trump from lamenting that the election had been “stolen” was the elixir that Trump fed to his supporters which led to Republicans across the nation to not seriously question the tactics that Trump employed to maintain his grip over the party. It worked until the 2022 midterm elections where Republicans were expected to steamroll over Democrats re-taking back congress with a vengeance, making havoc for President Joe Biden’s last two years in office. Trump and his handpicked candidates didn’t win bigly, as Republicans have a “razor-thin” margin in the House where there will have to be near unanimous votes by Republicans to get anything passed. Plus, standing over their shoulders looking will be Trump who still can create some havoc of his own within the party because he still has many who are still loyal to him. It may seem that there are those within the party who want to break away from Trump, but those conservative voters won’t allow that to happen. Despite Trump’s legal woes and the still possible indictments that could be in his future, Trump may have a “Samson” card that he will play. Right now, the talk going around conservative circles and the media is that Trump “is on his way out”, as the party prepares for new blood in the form of Fl. Gov. Ron DeSantis who some are trying to groom as Trump’s successor. Nonetheless we all know that Trump “will never” settle for being no. 2 in anything, not as long as he can pull some strings, which he still has dandling over the Republican party.

That is perhaps why he said that “parts of the Constitution” as it relates to the election process should be done away with because of the way that the 2020 election was stolen from him. Has there ever been a former president who has said anything about changing the Constitution because he didn’t like the results of the election? All of them with some form of grace/dignity walked away to begin their lives anew, hopefully appreciating the time that they were a part of a select few who could call themselves “president” of the United States in their lifetime. The question is, why can’t Donald Trump? It would appear to be bad enough that he still continues to trash those whether they be Republican or Democrat of whom he doesn’t like, but his enemies didn’t write the Constitution. They all put their hands on the bible and swore to “uphold” the Constitution, so “help them God”, and govern according to that Constitution. However, we know throughout history, many of them lied because some maybe many) of the things that they did/allowed wasn’t condoned by God. Now Trump is running again to prove what? He said that in regards to his loss, that “A Massive Fraud of this type allows for the termination of all rules, regulations and articles, even those found in the Constitution. Our great Founders did not want, and would not condone, False and Fraudulent Elections”. No, they wouldn’t. They would trash the document that they agreed on to govern future elections. Believing that the system would “stand the test” of time as it has, that is until Trump decided to make it work for him and him only.

The Republican Party is in great discord, disarray, confusion and has too many “chiefs” and not enough braves to follow. Trump knows this, which is why he can still say what he wants, hosts whomever he wants at dinner and watch Republicans only pay lip service to his antics, knowing that he still has millions of supporters to which Republican leaders listen. They will that not to worry about the Constitution, that’s just Trump. But if say, Obama had said that, Fox News led by Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity would have Republicans (Steve Scalise, John Kennedy) so-called, ‘defending” the Constitution against “radicals” who want to “destroy” America. A mouse makes more noise than what we have heard from Republicans. And just like that, Trump has turned the focus to 2024, waiting/watching how potential contenders will step on/over/ around each other hoping to take the top spot away from him. Oh, and that thing called the Constitution, Trump has already told his challengers what they can do with it. Like Bush 43 said, you are either with us or against us. Trump is saying the same words, only replacing “us” with “me”. Democrats have to be loving this. Remember, the world is watching. So is God.
