The Letter of the Law

Pull Up to My Bumper

(Things To Do When You Have a Car Wreck) Some time ago, I had the misfortune of finding someone “pulling up to my bumper”, thereby, causing a car wreck! While they did not do a “Grace Jones” on me, they did cause injury to me and they did do damage to my car! From that experience, I developed a checklist of things to do when you have a car wreck. That checklist is as follows: (1) Always stop your car and leave it where it is until the law says move it. (2) If someone is hurt, give assistance only if you are medically qualified. Otherwise, call an ambulance. (3) Call the police immediately. (4) Exchange vital information with the driver of the other car(s). (5) Get names and addresses of any possible witnesses and take pictures with your phone. (6) Inquire with the police if a report will be made regarding the accident and ask the officer on the scene for answers to other questions you may have. (7) Get a copy of the accident report as soon as possible. (8) Contact your insurance company if necessary. (9) See your doctor if necessary; and (10) See your lawyer if necessary. So, the next time - or the first time - you suffer the misfortune of having someone PULL UP TO YOUR BUMPER, take out the “checklist” above and follow it accordingly. Not only will it tell you what to do if you are in an accident, it will also help you follow … the letter of the law
