Heart Disease & Diabetes Prevention

At Carver-McDonald Library in Monroe LA, a community program gave tips on heart disease and diabetes prevention on Thursday November 10, 2022 by LSU AG Agent Markaye H. Russell. Russell spoke about the key risk factors for heart disease is high blood pressure. One thing that we can do to help our blood pressure is to lower our sodium intake. Coronary heart disease-often called heart disease is the main form of heart disease. It is a disorder of the blood vessels of the heart that can lead to a heart attack, chest pain (angina) or stroke. Heart disease causes 1 in every 4 deaths in the United States. Diabetes is a chronic (long-lasting) health condition that affects how your body turns food into energy. With diabetes, your body doesn't make enough insulin or can't use it as well as it should. Over time, which can cause serious health problems, such as heart disease, vision loss, and kidney disease. Diabetes is the seventh leading cause of death in the United States. Joyce Powell is Library Manager at Carver-McDonald Library.
