Remembering Alice Gates Riser

Alice Ruth Gates Riser was born March 4, 1945, in Clarksdale, MS to Finis Gates, Sr. and Vertie Louise Brown Gates. She passed from this life on October 27, 2002 in Monroe, LA, after an extended illness. Alice was an active and devoted member of Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Grayson, LA before her health prevented her from attending. She served in many roles in her life, but the roles of a loving daughter, sister, devoted wife, mother, and adoring grandmother were the most important. She especially treasured her time spent with her grandchildren. Alice enjoyed traveling. She retired from AT&T, where she was a maintenance administrator. Alice was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Vernell Riser, siblings Sadie Evans, Finis Gates Jr., Marion Maxine Gates, and loving daughter Joyce Burns. Left to cherish her memories are her sons - Vernell Riser ll (Nicki) of Monroe, LA, Jarrell Riser (Demetria) of Tallahassee, FL; daughters - LaZanda Riser of Milwaukee, WI, Yolanda Brown (Mario) of League City, TX, April Morgan of Monroe, LA, Ashley Lewis of Baltimore, MD; one sister, LaVerne Maddox of Chicago, IL; fourteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and a host of family and friends. Her graveside funeral services were on November 5, 2022, at Cedar Grove Memorial Cemetery in Grayson, LA.
