Dooleyville Mayor Reginald Butler Passes

Reginald McQuinn Butler was born in Monroe, LA to the parentage of the Late James Butler and Ms. Johnnie L. Butler. He was educated in Monroe, LA in the Ouachita Parish School System, attending Swayze Elementary, Ouachita Junior High, and Richwood High School where he graduated 1978.

His church affiliation was with the St. Joe Baptist Church in Rhymes, LA, under the pastorage of the Late Reverend J. H Houseley. He was active in the Sunday School during those years and the youth department. He later joined the senior usher board. Reginald worked for the Ouachita Parish School Board as bus driver for a few years and worked with the Brown and Root Industrial Welding Company in Houston, TX. One of his treasured accomplishments was to garner the title he self-proclaimed- the "Mayor of Dooleyville", the community in which he was reared. No campaign. No votes. No election. No platform. He was a character.

He departed this life on Wednesday, August 15, 2022, at the St. Francis Medical Center, Monroe, LA after a lengthy illness. Memorial Services Reginald McQuinn Butler 62, are Saturday, August 27, 2022, at the St. Joe Baptist Church 1446 Highway 15 South, Rhymes, LA, at 11:00 AM, where the Reverend Reuben Oliver is pastor. Reginald was the husband of Bennie Ruth Washington-Butler; the son of Ms. Johnnie L. Butler, Monroe, LA; the father of Courtland M. Williams; the grandfather of Courtland Dizer, Amarillo, TX; Angel Sutton and Saint Washington, Monroe, LA; and one great-grandchild, Lila Rose Medlock, Monroe, LA.; the brother of Victor Butler, Euless, TX; a sister, Amancia Hanna, Ackokeek, MD; Nieces: Sherquanta Elba (Abdul), Cypress, TX; Meredith Hollis, Arlington, TX; LaShaundra Washington, West Monroe, LA; and Rhonda Moorehead (Johnny), Monroe, LA; Nephews: Ontario Johnson (Kai) and Michael Beavears (Kia), San Diego, CA; Wendell Johnson (Rosie), Las Vegas, NV; Boyon Butler, Houston, TX, Cedric Washington, Dallas, TX,; Marcus Washington, Austin, TX; Dermont Carter, Auburn AL, and Marcus Lindsey, Monroe, LA, and a close friend, Aaron Ellis, Monroe, LA. A host of aunts, uncles, cousins, close friends, and classmates are too left to memorialize Reg, as he will be long remembered. He lived by his mantra: "Grace is sufficient." The family will greet friends and acquaintances immediately after the service in the fellowship hall of St. Joe Baptist Church.
