No Struggle, No Progress
Anthony Carnelius Emerson, 57, passed away on July 29, 2022, at home with his family. He arrived into this world on July 12, 1965, born to Grant and Bennie Ruth Myles Emerson, Sr. in Monroe, LA. Tony, as he was known by his family and friends, grew up in a large family that included seven siblings and a slew of cousins. As a kid, Tony would get into mischief, including throwing rocks, catching insects, playing sports, and joking around. He loved music, trivia, crossword puzzles, and books. Tony attended Carroll High School (CHS) and was a member of the football team. He graduated from CHS in 1984, and at the age of 18, where he enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country for four years. Everyone he met could feel Tony's caring spirit and generous heart. He was an avid lover of the outdoors and spent much of his time working in the yard and engaging in outdoor activities. You could find him at the local recreation center playing pool in his free time. Tony loved to have fun and gather with his family and friends, especially reliving stories of "the good ole days." As a father, Tony enjoyed spending quality time with daughter Portia Jones and granddaughter Lyric Bishop making precious memories. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and was a faithful believer who spent many years spreading the gospel. Tony, a gentle soul with a heart of gold, was a loving son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and loyal friend. He will forever be remembered for his kindness, love, and example of compassion. Tony was preceded in death by his father Grant Emerson, Sr., sister Helen "Lisa" Emerson Zeigler, aunts Beatrice Myles Pargoud, Vera Myles Carroll, Lucille Myles Smith, and John Myles, Jr. He will forever be remembered by his daughter Portia Jones, granddaughter Lyric Jones, mother Bennie Ruth Emerson, and siblings, Sylvia LaTangee Emerson Nelson (Albert), Grant Emerson, Jr., Tracy DeWayne Emerson, Sierra Myles, and Jamelia "Babygirl" Emerson. Also mourning are his aunts and uncles, Willie Mae Myles Lawrence, Bernard Myles (Connie), and Bobby Lloyd (Linda). Cherishing precious memories are his nieces and nephews Na'Tisha Bershea Nelson Natt (Charles), Krishundra Wynette Nelson, Paul'Laziah Hollins, Jamaris Sims, along with his nephews Donnell LaQuinton Myles, Zyhi'Khameren LaVance Myles, Jhuntrez RanMonz Myles, Jaylyn DaMonz Myles, and Zion King RaShad Myles. He will also be lovingly remembered by his great nieces, Laila Marie Natt and Ava Leigh Natt, along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends. Services are Friday, August 5, 2022, at 11:00 AM at the Jesus Christ Church of Latter Day Saints, 909 N. 33rd St. in Monroe, LA. Visitation is Thursday, August 4, 2022, 2:00 - 6:00 PM at Richardson Funeral Home, 1866 Winnsboro Road in Monroe, LA. Interment at the Northeast LA Veterans' Cemetery in Rayville, LA.
