A Heart of Gold, Rosie Spencer's Legacy

Rosie Lee Mansfield Spencer was born Thursday, April 13, 1939 to the late Joe and Daisy Lee Mansfield. Rosie "Boot" Mansfield was the fifth of twelve children born in Collinston, LA. Born a daughter of sharecroppers, she was always wise beyond her years. She learned to cook at the age of five and later became a master hair stylist, seamstress and cook, specializing in her famous pound cake and all kinds of southern comfort foods. She along with her husband were successful entrepreneurs. Rosie loved her family and always stressed the importance of education to her children. After a rich long life, Rosie went to be with the Lord peacefully at home on Thursday, July 28, 2022. Rosie confessed her belief in Christ at an early age, attending New Star Baptist Church in Collinston, LA. Later in life she joined Galilee Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Freddie L. Smith where she was a faithful member until her health failed. Rosie was married to the late James Edward Spencer, Sr. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents, four brothers: John (Lena), Frank Sr. (Vera), Fred Sr., and Joe Jr. (Gloria); five sisters, Sarah Anderson, Margaret Caldwell, Mary Jackson, Daisy Ann Rice, and Sadie Randle. Rosie leaves to cherish her memories six children, Mack (Charlotte) and Shelia of Bastrop, LA, Sylvia (Frank) of Monroe, LA, Theresa (Carvin), Annette (Sean), and James Jr. (Linda) all of Houston, TX; one sister, Ella Winfield and one brother, James "Teddy" Mansfield of Bastrop, LA; two sisters-in-law, Doris (Malachi) Ridgel and Mary Mansfield Crist; 17 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and best friend, Wilma Davenport.
