No Struggle, No Progress
Everyone gets tired, it’s natural and very human. However, it becomes an issue when we allow that to consume us and when we don’t rest. When I say rest, I don’t mean taking a nap for a few hours and then getting up and participating in something that made you take that nap in the first place. I say this because I do it almost every day, and I’m always drained by the end of the day. When I say rest, I mean taking an entire day to do nothing. It sounds silly, especially if you're a busy person but I honestly do believe that it works. About a week ago, my boss said something that changed my perspective on taking breaks and resting. I asked him if he would come to my cheer showcase on Saturday and he straight up told me no. At first, I was shocked and confused until he explained to me that he has to have a “Sabbath Day”, and his sabbath day is on Saturday. After he explained that to me, I took a mental note of it and realized that it was a good concept and that everyone should participate in it. Resting is essential for one’s mind and body, as well as your spirit. Resting could be a multitude of things from sleeping, gardening, watching tv, or however you choose to but I feel like we should give ourselves more than a few hours to rest. I’m not implying to be lazy or just slack off for a whole day for no reason but when you feel as if you have deserved the right to rest after a long week, take that Saturday or Sunday and spend time with you. Your body is a temple, one that has to be kept very well, so why should you limit yourself to just a few hours when you could spend a whole day. It’s okay to be selfish sometimes and tell people “No, today is my rest day.” They might be like me and be very confused at first but eventually, they’ll get it and if they don’t, they aren’t worth having around.
