No Struggle, No Progress
Grief can be a hard thing, especially grief after a tragic loss. It can be doubly difficult when a parent has to bury a child. God's grace has been with Terri Ethridge her entire life and has been a significant part of what has brought her peace in the past few days. Last week, Wednesday, July 6, 2022, her son, Basheen Hutchinson, was shot. Hutchinson, 23, was sitting with some friends in his car in front of his home like they had done so many times before, only this time a gun allegedly went off and struck Hutchinson. Ethridge believes it was an accident after a brief exchange with her son, who was airlifted to LSU Medical Center in Shreveport LA. Other stories of what happened allege that the shooting was most likely accidental. Basheen Jr. succumbed to his sustained injury on the operating table. Life without her son will be different, but her relationship with God is what is keeping her grounded. It was challenging to accept at first, but she knows and accepts that some things are beyond her control. She spoke to God while preparing to travel to Shreveport to be with her son. She wanted her son to be well, but more than anything, she wanted His will to be done because as long as her son was in His will she knew He held Basheen's hand. She has peace because she knows He held his hand. She knew her son and his character and will rest easy knowing he is now walking the streets of heaven. Basheen Jr. was born March 1, 1999, to Terri Ethridge and Basheen Hutchinson Sr. He attended Richwood High School and was a basketball player for his high school's team. He was an avid gamer and enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially his dad, with whom he shared a close relationship. Many are left to cherish his memories, including his dad, Basheen Hutchinson Sr; mom, Terri Ethridge; siblings - Theodore Cameron, Basheenia Hutchinson, Davey Mays III, and Aribella Hutcherson; grandparents Alberta Hutcherson, Belinda Cox, and Terry Cox; a special friend, Jabree Jones, and many other family and friends. His funeral services: Funeral - Saturday, July 16, 2022, 2:00 PM at Greater Free Gift Baptist Church; Viewing of the Body - Friday, July 15, 2022, 6:00 - 8:00 PM at McFarland Funeral home in Monroe, LA. Please pray for Basheen's family.
