No Struggle, No Progress

Girlfriends' Scuffle

According to police reports, suspects and significant others, Tavia Lawson and Kenisha Powell, became involved in a domestic dispute on May 27, 2022, at their residence and in a vehicle. Suspect Powell told police her live-in girlfriend of three years was upset over Lawson looking through her phone, which caused a rift outside the residence. The rift got worse as Lawson allegedly began to strangle Powell; Powell then bit Lawson. Both suspects went into their house, with one suspect trying to hit the other with a baseball bat. One lady grabbed the bat while the other pinned her against a wall attempting to strangle her when one suspect fell, and the other suspect grabbed her hair, pulling her down a hallway into their bedroom. On the same day, one suspect began searching through the other's phone in a vehicle. The conflict continued with Powell openly slapping the other suspect three times. Powell continued the fight with a closed fist punched to Lawson's face. Powell's son witnessed the incident confirming the other suspect's statement. Powell first told police she did not slap the suspect but eventually revealed she did not hit the suspect hard. Both Powell and Lawson were arrested and charged with Domestic Abuse, Battery, and Child Endangerment. There are three sides to every story. This was one side of this story. The Monroe Dispatch welcomes the other or another side of this story.
