No Struggle, No Progress
As shootings continue, many wonder when the violence will end. Law enforcement officers made what some would call a quick arrest when they apprehended a suspect involved in a weekend shooting. Ouachita Parish Sheriff deputies arrested 23-year-old Juandrick T. Luckett in connection to a shooting that occurred in the vicinity of Standifer Ave. and Burg Jones Ln. that happened Friday, April 22, 2022 after 6:00 AM. Lockett was arrested by law enforcement both with the Ouachita Sheriff's Office and East Carroll Sheriff's Office of Lake Providence, LA, where Lockett allegedly lived. Upon receiving a call, OPSO deputies responded to the Standifer/Burg Jones area where they found a 29-year-old male suffering from gunshot wounds. The wounded individual was taken to a local hospital, where he was listed in serious condition. As of press time, the victim has not been identified. Law enforcement officers said that Lockett was arrested without incident when he was taken into custody. No motive has been given for why Lockett shot the victim. At the announcement of the arrest, officers did not say what led to the quick capture or what led them to Lake Providence. Although there may have been witnesses to the shooting, it still remains unclear. There was a noticeable appearance of deputies in the area. Lockett is now housed at Ouachita Correctional Center (OCC) and is being held on the following charges, one count of Attempted Second Degree Murder and one count of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. The victim's condition is not serious but stable. There are three sides to every story. This was one side of this story. The Monroe Dispatch welcomes another or the other side of this story.
