Fatal Wreck

A wreck involving an 18-wheeler on Interstate 10 in Beaumont, TX claimed the life of Emma Brooks, 67 of Bastrop, LA on Monday, April 11, 2022. According to police reports, an 18-wheeler went over the guardrail on Interstate 10 near the downtown Beaumont exit, hitting a black Escalade head-on. An investigation showed the 18-wheeler was traveling eastbound on I-10 in the left travel lane, striking the concrete divider and continuing into the westbound, crashing head-on with a black Cadillac Escalade traveling westbound. The 18-Wheeler driver was taken to the hospital and is recovering from injuries and is expected to survive. Coach Emma Brooks was from Newellton, LA. She captured a LA Boys' State Championship at Newellton High School earlier in her career as a coach. She was the former Bastrop High School Girls' Basketball Coach for many years before her retirement. Please remember her family in prayer.
