No Struggle, No Progress
Little Flower Academy in Monroe LA was a special place beginning in 1940-1968 for students' kindergarten to high school. The learning environment was second to none where those attending received the best education through a Franciscan investment into the Black Community which helped present the Catholic Faith. At Little Flower, students were taught discipline, values, respect, the ten commandments, sportsmanship, religion, music, the arts, drama and stage performance in a caring and nurturing environment. Many students obtained success, while memories of Little Flower Academy will forever be in the hearts of those who attended and graduated. At Little Flower, basketball was the only competitive sport played. Little Flower Basketball Teams were off the charts. They competed and beat the best in Northeast Louisiana and beyond. There were never any easy wins when opponents played Little Flower! Little Flower Academy was the victim of integration closing in 1968, like many other great black institutions whose history was lost and forgotten by design. There was no place like Little Flower!
