No Struggle, No Progress

Shooting Through Motel Window

The old saying, "look before you leap" are wise words that we all should not only consider before we are about to do something regrettable but also in times when we should reconsider. The consequences are not often worth our actions. A local man is facing a possible prison sentence following his arrest after he allegedly fired a weapon at a couple Saturday, March 12, 2022 in a local hotel room. Suspect Larry Mitchell, 28, of Monroe, is alleged to have gone to a motel on Martin Luther King Jr. Dr., where he confronted a female and a male; he allegedly knew the female. According to Monroe PD, Mitchell crawled through a window after not being allowed into the room and started shooting at the couple. Police say the male occupant, who was also armed, fired back at Mitchell. Mitchell, who police say was angry/upset that the female was seeing the male victim, was the reason why he began shooting. Mitchell was struck in both legs by the male shooter but somehow managed to drive himself to a local hospital. Police reported no injuries to the couple after the shooting was over, and Mitchell fled. The suspect made it to the hospital, where he allegedly had a 9mm bullet on him that matched the casings from a gun he allegedly used in the motel room. Police recovered the casings to be used as evidence to match the weapon allegedly used by Mitchell. According to MPD, when Mitchell was informed that he would be under arrest, he, amazingly, fled the hospital on foot though he had been shot. It didn't take long for police to capture Mitchell and transport him to Ouachita Correctional Center. Police also confirmed that the female victim has a child that is Mitchell's. Thankfully, there was no loss of life or severe injuries from the shooting, but it can serve as a reminder that we all should think first. Mitchell is now facing two counts of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, Carrying a Concealed Weapon by Felon, and Flight/Aggravated Flight From an Officer. There are three sides to every story. This was one side of this story. The Monroe Dispatch welcomes another or the other side of this story.
