No Struggle, No Progress

Surprise...!!!

It had a fairy tale kind of feeling, and Earline Knox was in a fog all night fighting back the tears. A surprise party was thrown for her, GSU alum Friday, February 25, 2022, to celebrate her tireless humanitarian work and support to mankind in general. The event was hosted in the home of Mr. Cleo and award-winning internist Dr. Alyce Adams who graciously entertained an intimate group of 26 local and out-of-town well-wishers. Partygoers included international artist Don Cincone, KNOE newscaster Jasmine Anderson, Dr. Reginald Owens, Bill Savage, Cheryl Sutton, Johnnie Thomas, Dan Curvin Drs. Pamela and John Gouth, Eddie Callahan, and Monroe Dispatch publisher Dr. Ice, who was on hand, snapping the perfect photos of the eternal memory. Decorations by Pam of LETZ JAM transformed the receiving room into a grand posh atmosphere reminiscent of a classic elegant vacation getaway eagerly sought in Paris, New York, and Milan. Caterer George Payne and staff served exquisite hors d'oeuvres, and the gumbo was flavorful. Amidst the meet-and-greet chatter emerged the sultry tantalizing sound of Coco York that silenced and captivated the audience from the upstairs platform. The accomplished international songbird was accompanied by GSU alum Art Henry on piano and Rodney Brown on saxophone. Soul-stirring sounds of BIGG EEZ, known for his enviable octave range shared with songs by Sam Cooke and other notables that many know and love. The Monroe Dispatch asked two major planners why this grand, no expense spared gesture was created, and host Dr. Adams shared, “Earlean’s labor of love is unsung, and she seldom gets credit for her important work. She is often in the background pulling the strings that are significant for the success of the end product. Although she seeks no credit, my family, friends, and countless others have been the recipient of her skills, contacts, and passion for eagerly helping anyone she can, so my spirit led me to celebrate her during Black History Month.”
